FAQ Answers to your most common questions

Q : Is it possible to rent a château for less than a week ?

A : During the main season our Chateaux can only be rented for a period of 7 nights minimum, from Friday to Friday, Saturday to Saturday, or Monday to Monday depending on the property. We do short breaks (from 3 nights) in very low season depending on the dates and property. The rate for 3 nights is the weekly price -25%. Please contact us with your short stay inquiry.

Q : Is it possible to rent just one or two rooms in a Château ?

A : Kasteliades Châteaux are rented on an exclusive-use basis. That means the whole Château. We do not offer the rental of individual rooms like a traditional hotel.

Q : We are travelling by plane and have limited luggage - can we rent towels for the pool or wellness ?

Yes ! You can rent a pack of 15 giant size pool towels (size 110x175cm) for 40 euros per week. Please send us your request at least 14 days prior to your arrival.

Please note that there are no pool towels provided as standard and for hygiene reasons bathroom towels should not be used at the pool.

Q : What about internet wi-fi ?

A : There is free wi-fi available in each property.

Q : What about charging an electric vehicle?

A : In order not to exceed the overall château power limit we do not provide 'fast chargers'. You'll find a "Legrand green up" car socket outside every one of our Chateaux and a plug/French connector. Specifically designed for recharging electric vehicles, this is a slow-charge system (you may need up to 24 hours for a full charge). This is a free service.  You will find fast electric cars chargers throughout Southern Burgundy, for example in many of the bigger supermarkets, as well as dedicated charging stations.

Q : What do we need to bring for our stay ?

A : The kitchen and dining room are fully equipped so there is no need to bring any crockery or kitchen equipment whatsoever. Bed linen is provided and the beds are made up for your arrival. Two big size towels and two medium size towels are provided for each bedroom. Towels and bed-linen are not changed during your stay, but a washing machine and dryer are at your disposal in the Chateau. We do offer the possibility to rent additional towels and bed-linen sets :

  • Extra bathroom towels pack (10 XL + 10L size): 50 Euros
  • Extra single bed - complete set: 7 Euros
  • Extra king size bed - complete set: 10 Euros

Please place your order at least 14 days prior to your arrival.

Selected herbs, spices and condiments are supplied in the kitchen.

A Welcome Kit with the following items is provided on your arrival:

  • Hand soap (enough for your stay)
  • Dishwasher detergent tablets (enough for your stay)
  • Washing machine detergent (enough for your stay)
  • Kitchen towels
  • A welcome soap and shower gel in each bedroom
  • Floor cleaning products and equipment.
  • 5 rolls of toilet paper in each WC.
  • 1 x 2.5kg bag of charcoal for the barbecue (April to October), matches.
  • Wood for the fireplace in the winter period (enough for your stay)
  • 1 x white table cloth + 1 x coloured table cloth.
  • Handtowels (quantity matching property capacity)

Q : For those of us who don't live in France, do we need to bring an electrical adaptor with us ?

Yes ! We no longer provide electric adaptors anymore; those we had have been taken away by mistake by guests, too many times ^^. So everyone travelling in your party should have at least one electrical adaptor. Note that we provide hair dryers in all rooms so no need to bring one.

Q : We have a baby, what do we need to bring ?

A : Each château has two highchairs and two cots (including matresses, matress protectors, sheets and duvets). We also provide two strollers. Bottles can be heated in the microwave oven. You will never be far from a supermarket to buy baby food and nappies.

Q : We would like extra services (baby-sitting, cleaning, preparing breakfast, shopping…).

Some of our cleaning ladies have their own small company providing cleaning services. More information can be found in the Local Services section on the page presenting each property. You will need to contact them directly and their services will be invoiced by them and not through Kasteliades.

Q : What are the check-in and check-out times ?

Information regarding check in and check out & end of stay cleaning

Check-in is possible from 15h00 (3 pm) only, not before.

If you arrive between 15h00 and 17h00 you will be welcomed by a member of the Kasteliades team, maybe even by a member of our family. They will give you a detailed guided tour of the Chateau. If you arrive after 17h00, we organize a self check-in procedure (note: all our staff will have been on-site since 08h00 and French employement laws preclude staff working more than 9 hours per day).

You can always text or email us a message when you are driving to the Chateau to give us your expected arrival time.

Check-out is between 08h30 and 09h30.

A Kasteliades team member will arrive on-site at 08h15 and will carry out duties outside until you inform them that you are ready for the check-out procedure. This 15-minute procedure involves an inventory check and verification of the various appliances.

If you want to check out earlier please inform us a few days in advance so we can organise for a team member to be present.

Why can’t we check in earlier than 3pm or check out later than 9.30am?

We need these 5 hours between check-out and check-in to allow staff to fully clean the Château. They follow strict hygiene and cleaning procedures which require time.
FYI : between 25 and 30 hours are spent on preparation for each changeover on every property.

END OF STAY CLEANING :
You don’t need to clean the floors or the bathrooms ; this is done by our cleaning team. However the Chateau must be given back as tidy as you found it :

• Rooms should be tidy
• Any furniture and accessories which have been moved* should be returned to their original place (this facilitates the check-out procedure)
• Crockery, dishes and other utensils and equipment (whichever the room) must be cleaned and placed back in the cupboards.

*It is forbidden to take indoor furniture outside and to move beds from the bedrooms.

Q : What are the nearest airports and train stations

• Airports :

  • Lyon airport is between 60 mins. and 1h30 driving time to our Châteaux.
  • Geneva airport is between 90 mins. and 2 hours driving time to our properties.
  • Paris CDG and Orly airports : if you are renting a car, driving time to our Châteaux will be between 3h30 and 4h30. Alternatively, you can take a train to one of the stations we recommend below.

For taxi transfers see next question.

• Trains :

  • Le Creusot TGV High Speed Train station is the fastest way to and from Paris (1H15 minutes). The station is :
    - 25 minutes from Mercurey
    - 35 minutes from Lans and Burnand
    - 45 minutes from Saunières
    - 50 minutes from Montrevost and Montsymond
  • Beaune train station is probably the best choice to reach Villa Saunières from Paris, with a 20 minute drive to the Villa. However there are fewer high speed trains stopping here than at Le Creusot TGV.
  • Macon TGV train station is the best option for Montsymond and Montrevost if you are coming up by train from the south of France.
We recommend this very good website to book your train tickets : https://www.thetrainline.com/en/train-companies/sncf

Q : We need a transfer from the train station/airport or a car with driver for an excursion ?

• Taxi Lylou
We recommend the Taxi Lylou transport company. They have a fleet of 6 vehicles including an 8-passenger vehicle and their drivers are located at 5 points in southern Burgundy near our castles. We have negotiated special fixed rates for Kasteliades guests for airport transfers, transport to tourist sites and wineries, etc.

Q : We would like to visit some wineries on our own…

Each village in Burgundy has more than 100 wine producers ! Our recommendation is to use the 'Hachette' wine guide which you will find in the living-room library of all our Châteaux. This bible of wine in France recommends about 10 producers in each village, who offer good quality wines and who welcome the public.

Most people coming for the first time in Burgundy think they need assistance or a company to organize a wine tour for them, but that's not the case. Wine producers are very used to having people knocking at the door without any appointment. So use the Hachette wine guide to choose a winery or village you are interested in village, drive to the address and when you arrive simply knock on the door ! If the wine producer is away, try the next one which might only be 200 meters further along the road. Please avoid visits on Sundays and at lunch time, winemaking is hard work and they deserve their rest !

The top 200 producers in Burgundy generally do not welcome the public and do not sell wine directly to the public either. You can taste the wines of 21 of these Elite producers at Christophe's wine tastings events (owner of the Kasteliades properties and wine expert). Christophe's wine tasting program can be sent by email on request.

'Rue des Vignerons' is a very useful website where you can easily organize your visits  to a good selection of wine producers who welcome public :
www.ruedesvignerons.com

Q : We would like to welcome friends during our stay, or organize a party with guests above the sleeping capacity of the property.

A: The capacity of our Château indicated on the rental contract is also valid for the park and gardens of our Châteaux. It is not permitted to welcome more people to the property than the authorized capacity.
