Villa Saunières A 19th century 'hunting lodge' style Villa for exclusive holiday rental. In a peaceful setting facing the river Doubs, it's an ideal location for fishing, cycling & walking. The medieval city of Verdun-sur-le Doubs with all shops and restaurants is 5 minutes away.

Villa Saunières features 6 bedrooms for 2 people and a baby bedroom. 

One bedroom is on the ground floor, three bedrooms are on the first floor, plus the baby bedroom, and two bedrooms are on the second floor. All have en-suite bathrooms.

Three bedrooms are equipped with queen-size double beds (180 x 200cm) and three bedrooms have two single beds each (90 x 200cm). The single beds can be converted to doubles if desired.

The beds are made up for your arrival.
 Two folding baby beds are available in the Villa.
 
The groundfloor bedroom and one bedroom on the first floor are equiped with HD TV, Blu-ray DVD player and sattelite channels receiver.

The Bathrooms

All 6 bedrooms have their own private en-suite bathroom. Stylish and fitted with your comfort in mind, each bathroom has a WC and a washbasin, with 4 bedrooms providing showers and two having a bath. All have a hairdryer.
Towels are provided.

The lounge

You will appreciate the decor and comfort of the lounge with its large "Chesterfield type" sofas. The decorated ceiling ‘à la française’ and the ancient tiles add a touch of authenticity. The lounge is equipped with a big-screen high-definition television with satellite channels, a Blu-ray DVD player, and a PlayStation 3 ensuring your evening entertainment.

By the fireside…

The lounge features a 19th century fireplace. Equipped with an electric fireplace system, enjoy evenings around the fire with family or friends without the hassle of loading wood and havng to start the fire.

If you prefer a traditional fireplace, the dining room has a 19th centure open fire place for which we supply wood during the cooler months (included in our rental price). 

The dining room

The dining room, featuring a French-style ceiling, ancient tiles, and a superb fireplace, is decorated in a 'hunting lodge' style. The dining table can seat up to 12 people, with glasses, crockery, and cutlery carefully selected by Sylvia, all available in the sideboard.

A breakfast corner near the dining table provides a variety of options, including a traditional coffee machine, Senseo coffee machine, Nespresso coffee machine, and an electric kettle.

The kitchen

The villa kitchen is fully equipped including :

The villa also has a laundry room with washing machine (detergent is provided), tumble dryer, iron and ironing board.

The swimming pool & outdoor terrace

The heated pool

The 5m x 10m heated saline* swimming pool is open between 1st April and October (exact dates depend on the weather). The depth ranges from 1m at the shallow end to around 1m90 et the deep end. An automatic cover provides safety and helps maintain the water temperature when the pool is not in use.

The outdoor terrace

Sunloungers for all members of your party can befound on the pool terrace area, perfect for lazing around on hot afternoons. The terrace also has a large dining table, ideal for lunch by the pool or dinner outside on balmy summer evenings.

Barbecue

Immediately adjacent to the dining area is a traditional stone barbecue

Maintenance
Our maintenance staff will call by during your stay to ensure the upkeep of the pool and the terrace.

*Our Heated saline pools - environmental and safety information

All Kasteliades swimming pools are saline treated pools, as opposed to treated with hard chemical chlorine. This is generally considered to be gentler on the environment as well as on your skin, eyes and hair ! The salinity of the pool water is ten times less than that of seawater and you hardly notice it.

The swimming pool uses a heat pump, the most environment friendly method for heating an outdoor pool. The pump extracts heat from the air to warm the pool water circulating through it. If the air temperature falls below 15°C, we cannot guarantee that the pool will be warm enough.

All Kasteliades swimming pools have a cover to protect the pool and ensure the safety of children when closed. The covers are either flat or raised structural elements.
 

Wellness / Fitness

A small house located just next to the villa is totally dedicated to your indoor activities and wellness. 

On the ground floor there is a sauna and a steam-room with a capacity of 5 to 6 persons each, as well as a bathroom with shower and separate WC.

The first floor fitness room provides the following equipement :

• Two types of exercise bike
• Rowing machine
• Weight-lifting machine

One corner has a table football and relaxing sofas.

The laundry room is also located in this building.

Board Games

A host of board games (in French) are available in the lounge : Scrabble, Monopoly, chess, draughts, card games, etc...

Television & Video Games

The villa is equipped with 3 HD TV sets, Blu-Ray DVD players and satellite channels recievers - these can be found in the following rooms :

• Living room.
• Ground floor bedroom. 
• One of the first floor bedroom.

There is also a Play-station 3 with 10 games in the living room.

Free WiFi / Internet

There is wireless internet connection free of charge in the lounge.

Bicycles

Explore the area by bike ! Four bicycles and two child seats are provided free. Additional bicycles can be ordered (extra charge).

Boules

16 "pétanque" bowls can be found at the château in case you fancy a 'boules' contest between friends on our french bowls track.

Fishing

Villa Saunières is located right on the riverside of the Doubs. Just 100 meters from the villa, you'll find a prime fishing spot, excellent for carp, catfish and pike fishing.

Fishing permits (required !) can be purchased in the nearby town of Verdun-sur-le-Doubs at the fishing equipment shop. Please note that the shop is closed on Mondays and Sundays from November to April, and Sunday afternoons from May to October. 

Boat Ramp / Slipway

If you want to bring a small boat, a slipway giving direct acces to the river Doubs is located just in front of our Villa (use is free of charge). We also have a barn next to the Villa where you can store your boat and trailer.

Two local ladies have their own small businesses offering cleaning services, babysitting, help with cooking and other activities. If you need any help during your vacation please do not hesitate to contact them :

Services are invoiced at 20 euros per hour (all taxes and charges included), with a minimum of 4 consecutive hours per intervention.

Every Sunday from April to October, many villages in Southern Burgundy host outdoor flea markets. These markets feature locals selling items from their homes, attics, and cellars that they no longer use. You can find antiques and treasures from the past at very affordable prices.
